Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday submitted a resolution in National Assembly's Secretariat against the ban on construction of mosques' minarets in Switzerland. The resolution says, "This House strongly deplores the result of the referendum in Switzerland on November 29, 2009, whereby a ban on construction of minarets was approved.
The result is not only discriminatory but also violates the basic right of freedom of religion, which is enshrined in various international human rights agreements." The resolution further said such a decision reflected a totally mistaken and misguided view of Islam, a religion of peace, and would exacerbate racial tensions and undermine efforts to assimilate and integrate Muslim communities in Europe.
"This House calls upon the Government of Pakistan to convey its serious concerns to the Government of Switzerland and urge it to take necessary remedial measures on priority basis," the resolution added. Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan while participating in the debate on Balochistan Package has strongly condemned the ban on the minarets in Switzerland and termed it violation of fundamental rights.
