The Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Monday while summoning the record of police officers being sent for United Nations peace mission observed that the pick and choose policy should be discarded and the government should announce and follow a uniform policy. The court also directed IGP to depute an officer of additional IG rank to appear before court on December 14.
The court passed this order in a petition of a DSP Qamaruz Zaman contended his name has been dropped without any reason, while blue-eyed police officers are being selected for the mission. He pointed out that federal government had asked Punjab government to recommend the names of DSPs for the mission and his name was also recommended to IGP office. He said the candidates are to be interviewed from December 15 to 19 but he was not intimated about it.
He went to IGP office to find out the real situation where he was informed that his names has been dropped because one year has not been lapsed since he visited East Taimoor with UN peace mission.
He said government had not adopted a uniform policy in selection process as an officer, who was sent to East Taimoor along with him, has also been recommended again but his name was excluded. He said only blue-eyed officers are being accommodated. He, therefore, prayed to the court to direct the authority concerned to follow a uniform policy and include his name in the list of candidates.
