PPP Punjab holds peace rally against terrorism

13 Dec, 2009

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab held a peace rally against increasing incidents of terrorism in the country on Mall Road on Saturday. Provincial leadership of the party participated and addressed the party workers and its supporters. However, the rally was not as impressive, as it was being expected from the second largest party of the province.
The party leadership led the rally, which culminated in front of the Governor House. The party workers carried party flags and banners with anti-terrorism slogans. PPP Punjab president Rana Aftab Khan, Secretary General Punjab Sami Ullah Khan and Senior Minister Raja Riaz Ahmed addressed the rally.
The party leadership vowed to support the government and party leadership fully in war against terrorism and maintained that the whole nation was united against the menace of terrorism. It may be noted that terrorists have attacked heavily in different parts of Punjab throughout the outgoing week starting from Parade Lane mosque to Moon Market Lahore and ISI building in Multan, causing huge human loss.
Some party leaders also criticised other political parties for their absence from rally and said all parties should support a common cause. It may be noted that the PPP Punjab had decided to hold peace rally in the city ahead of the December 13 public meeting at Mochi Gate where the party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was due to address. However, the public meeting is cancelled after deadly attack at the Moon Market.
