The renowned Microsoft founder Bill Gates has disclosed what feature he dislikes the most about Microsoft Windows and if given a chance, he would definitely change it.

Bill Gates said that the feature he wasn’t a fan of and regrets was the Control-Alt-Delete shortcut which users normally use when their computers freeze.

According to Mirror.co, Gates expressed, “If I could make one small edit, I’d make that a single key operation.” Gates believe that Control, Alt and Delete are the keys that are structurally spread across on a traditional keyboard and hence are somewhat difficult to press. Each time Windows program becomes unresponsive, users have to contort their fingers across the keyboard for bringing back the computers to life.

However, Gates informed that the feature was initially designed to be an internal command by IBM programmers when they needed a quick way to reboot their machines while manufacturing keyboard for first PCs. The handy shortcut decided was thus, the Ctrl-Alt-Delete.

The shortcut was originally Ctrl-Alt-Escape, but it was decided that because these keys are too close together, it was practically easy to bump off. The conclusion then made was to use Ctrl-Alt-Delete that required using both hands.

The command was first used to restart the computer but later after Windows 95 onwards, the command was used to pop up the Task Manager used to kill offending processes, informed Tech Juice.

Gates exclaimed that if he had any way to change, he would have made IBM to add up a separate key for it, saving users from the so-called “three finger salute”. “We could have had a single button. But the guy who did the IBM keyboard design didn’t want to give us our single button.”
