The SSGC has curtailed gas supply to the (80-MW) Kotri Gas Turbine Power Station near Hyderabad. Due to this Pepco has to face a shortfall of 661 MW in the National Grid, which jolted the National Grid power supply system and compelled Pepco to resort to forced load shedding in various parts of the country.
Meanwhile, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has stopped gas supply to Pepco`s IPPs Rousche (427 MW) located on Abdul Hakeem road Kabirwala and the Fauji power plant (154 MW) located on Jhang-Shorkot road Kabirwala.
Because of curtail of gas supply most of the areas of the provincial metropolis are facing power load shedding. An official of SNGPL said that the gas was suspended due to law and order situation at Manzalai Gas Field and the Central Processing Facility near Karak, NWFP. It is learnt that a group of locals duly armed has taken over the control of two wells at the Manzalai gas field, resultantly the gas supply has been suspended to power sector.
Pepco official said that as soon as the gas supply is restored to these power plants, load shedding which is taking place in the country would be stopped forthwith. Hence, Pepco and its distribution companies (Discos) appeal the public for their co-operation in the prevailing situation for least use of electricity and conservation.
