Gems and jewellery sector: PGJDC, APGMJA for better coordinated efforts

All Pakistan Gems Merchants and Jewellers Association (APGMJA) and Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) have stressed the need to develop better understanding and mutual co-operation among the different stakeholders of gems and jewellery sector for the better development of the industry.
These views were expressed during a meeting of Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) and All Pakistan Gems Merchants and Jewellers Association (APGMJA) held here on Wednesday at PGJDC's Gems & Jewellery Training and Manufacturing Centre (GJTMC). APGMJA officials included Saeed Mazhar Ali (Chairman APGMJA) Muhammad Iqbal (Vice Chairman APGMJA), Ubaidullah Qadri (Ex-Chairman APGMJA), members of the managing committee and other stakeholders. While PGJDC officials included Mutiullah Sheikh (Chairman), Khalid Aziz (GM Training and R&D) and Zeba Mumtaz (GM Marketing & Quality Assurance).
The objective of the meeting was to create deeper awareness of the activities and initiatives that PGJDC is taking up for the overall uplift of the Gems & Jewellery industry of Pakistan. During the meeting PGJDC officials gave a detailed presentation on the performance of the company in the areas of skill development, technology upgradation and marketing/branding and quality assurance.
APGMJA officials were briefed about projects and activities by the Company such as Gems and Jewellery Manufacturing Centres (GJTMCs) in Karachi, Lahore and Gilgit, Gem Exchanges in Peshawar and Quetta, planning of Hallmarking Centres in Karachi and Lahore, participation in international exhibitions in various countries including USA, Germany, UAE, Hong Kong, Thailand and India and the Company's efforts in having the trade and import policies pertaining to gems and jewellery regulated at the Ministry level.
PGJDC also shared its achievements including 10 Gem Bazaars organised in less than one and a half years, trainings provided to around 3000 individuals in the Gems & Jewellery industry through 150 different training programs conducted during the period of only two and half years of its operations.
APGMJA highly appreciated PGJDC's relentless efforts and progress in the development of the Gems & Jewellery industry of the country. The officials of APGMJA gave valuable suggestions for better co-ordination and effectiveness in communication. PGJDC appreciated APGMJA's encouragement and co-operation for its initiatives for the development of the Gems & Jewellery industry.
