US MIDDAY: sugar, cocoa and coffee drop

18 Dec, 2009

Summaries of the ICE Futures US cocoa, coffee and sugar markets early on Thursday. March arabica coffee contract slid 1.50 cents at $1.468 per lb at 11:05 am EST (1605 GMT). Session range from $1.449 to $1.482. Arabica coffee futures decline as firm dollar induces sales in the market although concern lingers over tight supplies, said brokers.
March raw sugar contract dropped 0.25 cent to 25.69 cents per lb at 11:07 am. Trading range from 25.46 to 26.64 cents, highest intra-day mark for sugar on weekly charts since 1981. Market rallies early to near 30-year highs, but profit-taking and suspected producer sales knocks market back, said traders. Benchmark March cocoa contract dove $78 to $3,420 per tonne at 11:08 am. Trading range from $3,400 to $3,490. Bean futures slide as market pulls back after hitting 30-1/2 year high in the previous session, said traders.
