LHC releases Sikh lawyer on interim bail

18 Dec, 2009

The Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Thursday released a Sikh lawyer Anop Singh on interim bail, who was involved in a case of trespassing and torturing the inmates. Earlier, DPO Attock produced him before the court who said that the case against him was registered only to restrain him from his professional duty, which he was performing in a divorce case.
Singh further said that he was mercilessly beaten by the estranged husband of his litigant wife Safina Kanwal. He said Safina had fully supported his version but the police had not registered any case against the assailants as yet.
The court granted him interim bail and adjourned further hearing of the case till December 24. Counsel Arif Chaudhry contended that Amin, estranged husband of Safina, had nurtured grudge against Anop and implicated him in a fake case with the help of local police. The accused (Amin) also cut off the beard of Anop Singh in police custody besides subjecting him to severe torture, counsel added. He requested the court to quash the FIR registered against the Sikh lawyer.
