If Prime Minister tries to protect Zardari, government won't survive: Imran

20 Dec, 2009

Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has warned that if Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani tries to protect President Asif Ali Zardari on National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), his government would not survive. He expressed these views while addressing PTI Insaf rally, which was organised to celebrate the Supreme Court's verdict on NRO here on Saturday.
Imran urged the government to implement the Supreme Court's verdict in letter and spirit. He observed that 'the NRO thieves' looted billion of rupees and the government should recover the looted money. He also asked PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif to distance himself from the President, otherwise he will be out of politics.
"The Supreme Court's verdict is a historic, as for the first time in the history of the country that the judiciary decided against the government. He also appealed to the Supreme Court for a judicial probe into the killings of the innocent citizens as a result of drone attacks and to find the facts through a commission headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan. "Drone attacks on innocent people tantamount to extra judicial killing. When we kill people in northern areas, they retaliate against Pakistan," he observed.
Imran warned the government not to increase prices of electricity, otherwise they would mobilise the people to come to the street against such step. Meanwhile, the rally started from the PTI office on Jail Road and concluded at Data Darbar, which was led by Imran Khan. A large number of PTI leaders and workers participated in the rally, including PTI leaders Ijaz Chaudhary, Omar Cheema, Javed Irshad and Ahsan Rasheed.
