Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation (DGI&I), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has seized a consignment of shading net for green houses imported from China in the garb of woven fabric. Sources said that the staff of DGI&I has detained the consignment of shading net imported by Arshad Jan Enterprises from China, which cleared it through Pakistan Customs Computerised System (PaCCS), in violation of Section 32 of Customs Act 1969 and Valuation Ruling 3 of 2008.
They said that the consignment was cleared by mis-declaring its description, value and classification. Furthermore, they said the unit value of shading net for green houses was fixed at $3.90 per/kg under PCT 5607.1900.
Although, the importer of the said consignment was also liable to pay 18 percent sales tax and 4 percent income tax with other duties, he managed to clear the same under PCT 5407.1000 with an active connivance of the MCC staff, evaded Rs 1.21 million taxes.
They said that the assessing staff of MCC failed to classify the goods properly, despite examining two consignments of the same importer earlier, which polluted the role of MCC staff in the case and added that the seizure report of the case was forwarded to the MCC for adjudication and recovery of evaded amount, they added.
