Implementing public reforms agenda: government's approach disappointing

27 Dec, 2009

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on Saturday said that the countrymen are facing disappointment due to indifferent attitude of the government vis-à-vis taking sincere approach for the implementation of reforms agenda for public welfare.
Senior PML-N leader Mohammad Pervez Malik told Business Recorder that the PPP-led coalition government needs to take serious efforts for the enforcement of reforms agenda for public welfare. People of four provinces were the supporters of a strong federation and any power-hungry person could not use them for ulterior motives and all those involved in airing the provincialism and hatred could not misled the public.
The PML-N leader stressed that Pakistan at present needed sagacious leadership, which could provide relief to the people facing internal and external challenges. People wanted to see Pakistan stable and all the institutions including the parliament fully empowered, he said.
He added that Pakistan at present could not tolerate any internal confrontation and tug of war among the democratic forces. Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Punjab Malik Mohammad Afzal Khokhar said that the Pakistan cannot bear burden of any other crisis, therefore, apex court's verdict on NRO should be accepted and implemented in letter and spirit.
He expressed that the people of four provinces were happy on the start of second round of rule of law and constitution in the country. No political party could get popularity among the masses by promoting the politics of violence and confrontation, he observed. Khokhar cautioned the rulers to remember the shameful downfall of military dictator Pervez Musharraf and avoid entangling with the judiciary.
PML-N Overseas Central Secretary General Sheikh Kaiser Mehmood said that putting an end of electricity subsidy to domestic and agricultural consumers, is great excess with them. He said that the rulers should not lay burden beyond tolerance of the people, otherwise they would not endure patience any more.
He said the rulers should not punish the people of their ill-conceived policies; failing which price hike-stricken people would take it to the streets. He urged the government to withdraw its decision of taking back subsidy of electricity. He said the rulers, instead of sucking blood from veins of the people, should curtail their own expenditures.
