Sugarcane price fixation: LHC adjourns hearing till February 4

A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) adjourned to February 04 next the hearing of two identical petitions filed by Indus Sugar Mills and J.W Sugar Mills challenging the notification fixing the price of sugar cane as law officer informed the court that the requirements of the notification has not yet been fulfilled.
Various sugar mills and representatives of growers appeared before the court and prayed to allow them to become party to the case. The petitioner counsel Barrister, Syed Ali Zafar, submitted that the Punjab government had to put in place mechanism for determination of sugar cane sucrose content and for resolution of disputes. The court, therefore, adjourned the proceedings to next date of hearing allowing the sugar mill owners and representatives of the growers to become party in the case.
