01 Jan, 2010

Mehran University Institute of Science and Technology Development (MUISTD) organised a workshop on the Business Process Re-Engineering on Thursday 31st December 2009. The workshop was conducted by Dr Arabella Bhutto as a resource person. The purpose of this workshop was to identify the pitfalls and bottlenecks in the currently running administrative processes of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET).
The workshop was conducted by involving the middle management of the MUET for the identification of problems, which can be solved with the help of technological or human resources. The administrative departments, which successfully participated in the workshop included Quality and Enhancement cell, Examination, Planning and Development and Finance. The workshop was divided in two parts. The part I of the workshop equipped the middle management with the knowledge of process mapping and developed their concepts of Business Process Re-Engineering.
The main advantage of developing a process map is to make it transparent to the employees for improving and managing their knowledge of activities and offering trainings to new employees. The part II of this workshop involved the same middle management in mapping the MUET processes and identifying the current gaps, which can be filled through the resource allocations, technological progresses, documentation of training procedures, tracking of work flow and with increased staff awareness.
