Poverty main cause of depression in rural areas

05 Jan, 2010

The cases of depression, which were earlier common in big cities, are now surfacing in rural areas as more and more cases are surfacing mainly due to poverty and injustices. This was revealed by a leading psychiatrist at a medical camp organised by a team of psychiatrists at a remote peripheral area of Sammundri.
The camp was organised on yearly basis for the last 28th year consecutively. Led by leading psychiatrist Professor Dr Haroon Rashid Chaudhry, a team comprising doctors, psychiatrists and psychologists examined over 400 patients in a day and gave necessary consultancy besides free medicines. Professor Dr Haroon Rashid told Business Recorder that cases of depression, obsession, epilepsy and anxiety were found among the patients examined during the camp.
