No filling of MDRP till victims compensated

Filling of the reservoir of Mangla Dam Raising Project (MDRP) will not be started until the compensation is made and the affectees construct their houses at the alternative places in accordance with the rules, says a statement issued by Wapda here Monday.
The statement said though the main works of the project are complete, yet water in the raised reservoir will only be filled once the compensation components of Mangla Dam Raising Project (MDRP) are fully implemented. The statement further stated that an attractive and comprehensive package for resettlement and compensation of the affectees has been devised, covering land compensation and compensation for houses both. New City near Mirpur and four small towns in vicinity of the affected land are also being developed, having all civic amenities of the modern age.
To equip the locals with the modern skills, a vocational training institute in New City and vocational training schools in four towns are also being established. In addition, a bridge over River Jhelum at Dhangali is also being constructed at the project cost. It is pertinent to mention that Mangla Dam Raising Project (MDRP) will provide additional 3 MAF of water for irrigation purpose, besides generating 644 Gwh additional electricity per annum from the existing power house.
