06 Jan, 2010

The Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Tuesday stayed removal of 19 doctors from service by suspending orders of Secretary Health and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). The court also issued show cause notices to the Secretary Health and the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) for January 12 for taking action against the doctors in violation of a court restraining orders.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on December 22 last had stayed suspension of these doctors and restrained the authorities from taking any action against doctors till final disposal of petition filed by them. The petition was filed by Dr Kamran Cheema and other doctors who were being held responsible for the death of Huma Akram, wife of cricketer Wasim Akram, by a government made committee. On Tuesday, the court was informed that despite a restraining order the respondents removed doctors from services, which amounted to contempt of court.
