The newly appointed vice-captain of Pakistan Asad Shafiq said his side would miss Misbah ul Haq and Younis Khan, as the Green-shirts prepare to take on Sri Lanka in the first Test in Abu Dhabi starting from Thursday.
Talking to media at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Asad said “Misbah and Younis’ absence would definitely be felt, but now it is up to the experienced team players to fill the void.”
To a question regarding his middle-order batting, he replied that he will be batting in the top order.
The 31-year-old added that the team is fit and comfortable with playing in UAE conditions.
Specially praising Yasir Shah, Mohammad Abbas and Mohammad Amir, he said, “it’s a balanced side when it comes to bowling and fielding.”
Commenting on Mir Hamza, who is yet to make his debut, Asad said Hamza is young and talented player, and has the experience of playing in the Emirates too.
He said Sri Lanka was a good opponent given the conditions in UAE. They have some great bowlers and the spectators will get to see great matches, Shafique added.
It is pertinent to mention here, Pakistan are all set to face Sri Lanka in the first Test here in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. This is the first Test series since the retirement of former skipper Misbah ul Haq and Younis Khan.
