The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued instructions to the Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) for payment of refund to 33,000 taxpayers, who have electronically filed income tax returns by December 31 2009. In this regard, the FBR has issued instructions to the field formations here on Thursday.
Sources told Business Recorder that refund upto Rs 50,000 would be paid to 33,000 taxpayers by January 15, 2009. The refund claimants include all three categories of taxpayers ie corporate sector, Association of Persons (AOPs) and individuals.
Out of total claimants, most of the refund applications have been filed by individuals under this exercise. Sources said that one of the major advantages of electronic return filing system is the prompt payment of refunds to the taxpayers. The electronic data of taxpayers available with the department has enabled the department to promptly issue refunds without any delay.
