President Asif Ali Zardari met Syrian President Bashar al Assad on Friday night and condoled with him over the death of his brother Majd al Assad, who passed away last month. President Zardari, when arrived at the Presidential Palace, was received by his Syrian counterpart.
The President offered Fateha for the departed soul and expressed sympathies with the Syrian President on his as well as on behalf of the people of Pakistan. Both leaders discussed the close brotherly and cordial relation that exists between the two Islamic states. The Syrian President also hosted a dinner in honour of President Zardari.
Later, the President visited the shrine of Hazrat Bibi Zainab, the granddaughter of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the daughter of Hazrat Ali (AS). The relations between the two brotherly countries reached its climax during the era of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and late Syrian President Hafiz al Assad.
