Two percent rise has been recorded in violence against women in 2009 over non-implementation of laws. Talking to a private news channel Director Aurat Foundation, Shabina Ayaz said incidents of violence against women have seen a two percent rise during last year, as compared to 2008.
She said that non-implementation of laws protecting women have led to this increase. Some 328 cases of violence against women were registered during the last six months, in which some of these women were murdered due to minor reasons. While 70 women had suffered domestic violence, out of which 22 committed suicide, 14 were killed in the name of honour killing, five became victims of gang rape, while 27 more women were targeted for various reasons.
