450 railway crossings in terrible shape

14 Jan, 2010

Pakistan Railways had sent a proposal for upgrading about 450 most vulnerable unmanned railway crossings across the country to federal government three years back to avert accidents but regrettably the government did not respond to the proposal. Chief Engineer Pakistan Railways, Muhammad Khalid while talking to APP on Wednesday said in all there are 2,382 unmanned level crossings in the country.
He said Railways had identified "most vulnerable crossings" and made a plan for upgrading the same but the previous government did not release funds for the scheme. He said presently Pakistan Railways have totally banned new level crossings and if any department, federal or provincial wanted to develop any road crossing railways lines, it has first to make arrangements for building fly over or underpass.
