US MIDDAY: gold down, copper rises

New York metals futures were indicated on the electronic Globex platform by 8:00 am EST (1300 GMT). COMEX February gold down 40 cents to $1,136.40 an ounce. Range ran from $1,133 to $1,145.60. Spot gold quoted at $1,136.30 an ounce, down from Tuesday's late quote at $1,137.60 an ounce.
COMEX gold stocks down 97,096 ounces to 9,833,087 ounces as of Wednesday. COMEX March silver up 0.5 cent to $18.555 an ounce. Range from $18.455 to $18.740 an ounce. COMEX silver stocks up 57,537 ounces to 111,332,048 ounces on Wednesday. Spot silver was at $18.46 an ounce, compared with the previous session's late quote at $18.59 an ounce.
NYMEX April platinum up $22.60, or 1.4 percent, to $1,597 an ounce. Spot platinum was quoted at $1,593 an ounce. March palladium up $13.50, or 3.2 percent, to $438.45 an ounce. Spot palladium was at $432.50 an ounce. COMEX March copper up 2 cents to $3.4200 per lb. Range from $3.3910 to $3.4345. COMEX copper stocks up 201 to 99,641 short tons as of Tuesday.
