As many as 100 development projects still await the funds allocation for their revival those were discontinued or postponed during the year 2008-09 by the Planning Commission as part of rationalisation of PSDP throw-forward liability.
Minister for Finance, Revenue and Planning and Development, Shaukat Fayaz Ahmed Tarin on Friday told the Lower House of Parliament that the Planning Commission had discontinued or postponed 173 development projects of various ministries and divisions during the fiscal 2008-09.
`Due to sever resource constraints faced by the country during 2008-09, the development expenditures had to be rationalised and this exercise was carried out in consultation with the concerned ministries and divisions,' said the minister. He informed the House that the government has allocated budget for 73 of 173 such projects during the fiscal year 2009-10 for their revival.
He said the ministry had adopted a strategy to discontinue the project that included the new and unapproved projects which yet to start, ongoing projects where expenditure was nominal; in most cases less than 10 percent and the project considered of low priority by the concerned ministry.
