Swiss franc follows euro down versus dollar

16 Jan, 2010

The Swiss franc stayed close to ten month highs against the euro but tracked the single currency down against the dollar and yen on weak US economic data and market rumours German Chancellor Angela Merkel might resign.
The franc recovered some ground in tandem with the euro after the German government denied Merkel was to resign, but remained well down on Thursday's levels against the dollar and yen as concerns over Greek debt persisted.
The franc climbed 0.1 percent against the euro compared with the New York close, trading at 1.4758 per euro.
But the Swissie was sharply down against the dollar, slipping 0.8 percent to 1.0258 francs pee dollar. It was also down 0.9 percent against the yen, sliding to 88.67 yen to the franc.
