SHC reserves order in gasfields contract award case

20 Jan, 2010

Sindh High Court on Tuesday reserved its order on constitutional petition challenging award of contract for gas exploration at Tando Allahyar & Sinjhoro in Sindh. Petitioner Zafar Mahmood Malik, an OGDC shareholder, challenged the award of contract for gas exploration in interior Sindh.
He stated that Oil Gas Development Corporation board of directors passed a resolution to rescind its decision and the petition filed in 2006 was withdrawn in 2008 as having borne fruit.
The corporation again advertised the contract in February 2009 and the court again stayed bidding at the petitioner's behest. Latest invitation for bids aimed at setting up extraction plant by private investor at Bobi gasfield, Sanghar.
Previously, Advocates Abdul Hafeez Pirzada and Abdul Sattar Pirzada had argued that gas and other natural resources having been specified in Part II of federal legislative list fell within the purview of Council of Common Interests under Articles 153 & 154 of Constitution.
