Sale of rotten eggs: LHC seeks comments from secretaries

The Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif here Tuesday called report and comments from Punjab secretary foods and secretary health in a petition challenging the sale of rotten eggs in the market. Petitioner one Iftikhar Ali, of Lahore, said that the companies supplying eggs for getting broiler bird hatched egg of breeder bird.
He said during this process about 75 percent hatched eggs gives birth to a baby chick whereas the remaining about 25 percent eggs become poisonous and rotten. He prayed to the court to direct the respondent authorities to adopt special measures to stop such practice being done by private egg-supplying companies and strict action be taken against them for causing hazard to the public health.The Chief Justice sought comments from respondents till February 2 and also directed Advocate General Punjab to assist the court in the matter.
