Seminar on 'energy conservation in industries' held

Director Conservation and Energy, KESC, Asif Husain Siddiqui said that if 60 percent consumers of Karachi replace one 100 watts bulb with a 20 watts energy saver, it would save 100 magewatts of energy in the city.
Addressing a seminar on 'energy conservation in industries' organised by Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) on Thursday he said that standby modes is a way of wasting energy and industries and other consumers should switch off all the appliances from the power socket to conserve energy.
He appreciated the efforts of KATI for organising such a seminar to create awareness among the industries and making them energy efficient. He advised the industries to perform energy audits regularly and implement the given energy efficient plan in order to conserve electricity.
Deputy General Manager, ABB Ltd Pakistan, Aqeel Ahmed said that in his presentation the industries should use soft starters with high rating motors. He advised the industries to use FRP (Fiberglass reinforced plastic) aerofoil designed fans instead of aluminium and steel, they can conserve up to 40 percent energy.
He advised the industries to replace rewound or 30-year old motors (with efficiency below 80 per cent) with new ones and always use energy efficient motors with efficient above 90 percent giving performance to well reputed makes. He advised that electrical machines and cables, conductors, etc with 99.99 per cent copper. He pointed out that a number of industries, banks and commercial entities are implementing energy conservation plan and conserving 10 to 30 percent electricity annually.-PR
