NA-123 by-poll: PML-N leader sees Lahore as party's stronghold

22 Jan, 2010

Senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-N and Political Advisor to CM Punjab Mohammad Pervaiz Malik has said that Lahore is an unconquerable stronghold of PML-N and by the grace of God, the PML-N candidate will emerge victorious in the forthcoming by-election of NA-123.
While addressing a gathering of PML-N workers of NA-123 here on Thursday, Malik said that there are strong roots of the PML-N in NA-123 and the people of this constituency have always supported its candidates. During Musharraf's dictatorial rule, he said, the leaders and workers of NA-123 offered sacrifices for the cause of democracy and that was why the PML-N leadership has always had close social and personal relations with the people of the constituency.
Malik said elements fearing defeat were spreading baseless propaganda. Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-N Central Leader and former Deputy Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal has said that the President is the symbol of federation therefore, he (Zardari) should avoid issuing 'provocative' political statements.
He Asif Ali Zardari's style of addressing has no conformity with his presidential status, while the Constitution does not allow the president to launch an election campaign in favour of any political party. The forthcoming local bodies' elections would expose the popularity claims of every political party, he added.
