The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) has no plan to close its office in Pakistan. Rebutting a news item published in a section of press, the Unesco statement categorically denied the news that 'Unesco Pakistan cluster may be closed.'
Highlighting the facts, the statement reported, "Unesco has no plan to close its office in Pakistan. Unesco's Pakistan office has been operating since 1957 and is one of the oldest offices in Asia-Pacific region." Unesco also denied that any meeting of the "Executive Committee and Country Directors of the Asia-Pacific region" will be held on January 29 to discuss the matter; nor has a meeting been held here in Pakistan on this topic.
"As part of the 'One UN' pilot in Pakistan, Unesco is fully committed to continue the whole range of its programmes in Pakistan including both development and humanitarian work," the Unesco stated.
