Coverage of AJK Prime Minister visit: journalists call off boycott

Local journalist association, Mirpur on Saturday called off the boycott for coverage of the ongoing official visit of AJK Prime Minister, Raja Farooq Haider Khan. The Prime Minister visited local press club and offered excuse over the manhandling by police and security personnel of certain journalists covering his function in a local hotel here late last night.
The journalists belonging to national print and electronic media were manhandled by the security personnel during the course of a clash between the activists of two rival factions of the ruling All Jammu Kashmir Muslim Conference.
On hearing about the boycott call by the journalists of his functions, Prime Minister Farooq Haider, accompanied by the army of his cabinet colleagues and senior officials of the AJK government, divisional and district administration, rushed Kashmir Press Club and requested the journalists to end their boycott call.
In his brief address to the Press Club's members, the Prime Minister said that politicians and his government have great respect and honour of the fourth pillar of the state and the dignity and honour of the working journalists will be safeguarded in letter and spirit. He expressed full solidarity with the journalists fraternity across AJK besides assuring to take full care of their due rights for the performance of their professional duties.
