'Rise in number of polio cases matter of concern'

24 Jan, 2010

Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan has said that growth in polio cases is a matter of concern not only for Karachi and the province, but it is also affecting country's image. Problems should not be made an excuse for failure, but should be solved with wisdom and all capabilities, he said while chairing a high level meeting at the Governor's House, on Saturday, in which polio cases, particularly in Karachi's suburbs came under consideration.
In view of the pinpointing of reports of polio cases in Gadap, Baldia and Gulshan Towns, a Community Service Co-ordination Committee was formed in which the people of respective areas would also be included.
It was decided that the committee members would be selected remaining above the political, religious and linguistic considerations, and it would be the committee's responsibility to select such volunteers at Town and UC levels, who may be having influence in their areas so that polio campaign proves successful.
The Governor directed the inclusion of DCO and EDO health for leadership in the campaign. Ibad said problems do come in the way, but it is our responsibility to identify and solve them and there is no "no go" area in Karachi which could be used as an excuse for not reaching there.
