South Africa offers to host Pakistan series

25 Jan, 2010

South Africa have offered to host Pakistan for a full test series at the end of the year because of concerns over the security situation in the South Asian country. South Africa are scheduled to visit Pakistan in October for a three-test series and five one-day internationals but the tour is unlikely to go ahead due to the ongoing offensive against the Taliban and other militants in parts of the country.
A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesman said that South Africa was keen to play and host the matches on the schedule. "They have offered to host our 'home' series in South Africa but we are looking at other options like playing at neutral venues including the United Arab Emirates," the spokesman told Reuters.
Teams have been reluctant to tour Pakistan since militants attacked the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore last March in which six Pakistani policemen and a driver were killed and six players wounded. Later this year, Pakistan will play two 'home' tests against Australia in England.
