LHC issues notices to Ministry, AFP

26 Jan, 2010

The Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Monday issued notices to the ministry of Sports and Culture and Association of Film Producers (AFP) for February 9, 2010, in response to a writ petition, seeking ban on exhibition of Indian films in protest to exclusion of Pakistani cricketers from Indian Premier league (IPL).
Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif passed these orders in connection with the petition of Muhammad Hussain, a citizen, who through his counsel Ishtiaq Ahmed Chaudhary contended that Pakistan is the world champion in T20 cricket but ironically none of our national player was selected for any IPL team, as owners of all teams intentionally stayed away from giving bid for them.
The petitioner said that this is not only the humiliation of players, but also the whole nation while the Indian films are being exhibited throughout the country. He said Pakistan government should also launch a league on the pattern of IPL so that Pakistani cricketers and fans could get some relief. He prayed to the court to ban exhibition of Indian films till their government seek public apology over humiliation of Pakistani crickets and the nation.
