26 Jan, 2010

The prices of vegetables, fruits and other food items witnessed increase in the six weekly bazaars of Multan on Monday as compared to last week and people were found complaining about the sale of substandard items. A visit to the bazaars revealed that the prices of onion, cabbage, cauliflower, green pepper, bitter gourd, ladyfingers, oranges, apples, guava and banana have gone up.
People expressed resentment over the sale of substandard items in the bazaars. They said the local administration did not bother to visit the bazaars and it had failed to take actions against those responsible for selling substandard items and fleecing people by creating artificial shortage of food items. Saima Butt, a housewife, said substandard vegetables and fruits were being sol as per the official price list and the better quality items were being sold at higher prices, as nobody was there to check this.
