CoAS leaves for Brussels

The Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has left for Brussels where he will present Pakistan's perspective on the security situation in the region. General Kayani proceeded to Brussels on special invitation of Chairman, Military Committee of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato), Admiral Giampaolo Di Paolo, where he would participate in the meeting of Chiefs of Defence of the Nato.
The Military Committee is the highest forum of Nato that meets regularly to discuss various strategic issues concerning the organisation. General Kayani would emphasise the need for a comprehensive approach to deal with the complex security situation. The way forward on new US strategy in Afghanistan will also come under discussion in the meeting.
During his stay the COAS will also hold separate meetings with M Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Secretary General of Nato, Admiral Michael G Mullen, US Chairman Joint Staff and Admiral Giampaolo Di Paolo, Chairman, Military Committee of Nato, where he will discuss matters of mutual interest and co-operation with them. The COAS was seen off by Lieutenant General Muhammad Mustafa Khan, Chief of General Staff and Lieutenant General Tahir Mahmood, Commander 10 Corps at Chaklala Airbase.
