Petition filed to restrain construction of Benazir Bhutto's monument

27 Jan, 2010

A constitutional petition has been filed before the Lahore High Court (LHC) for restraining construction of Benazir Bhutto monument in Rawalpindi or elsewhere. A bar member Syed Feroz Shah Gilani said in the petition that Benazir was never recognised as undisputed leader of the country nor attained the status of national hero.
He said Benazir's never followed ethical and democratic principles as she had admitted in her book "Reconciliation" that she struck a deal with former dictator Pervez Musharraf. He said BB's two governments were dismissed on the charges of corruption and in competency. He prayed to the court to remove the names of politicians including BB from national assets like Islamabad International Airport, hospitals, government and semi-government departments and institutions.
