Federal Minister for Communication Dr Arbab Alamgir has said that NRO is no more an issue following the Prime Minister's assertion that the Supreme Court's verdict would be implemented. Talking to a private news channel, he said that on the instruction of judiciary, they took the NRO issue in the Parliament but on realising the mood of the House, they did not make it an issue of prestige and even they did not defend it in the court.
He said that the prime minister has clearly announced that we would accept the verdict and following his announcement, NRO should be no more an issue, he remarked. However, the federal minister clarified that under Article 244 of the Constitution the President enjoys immunity, but those who do not enjoy the immunity would resort to the courts to defend their cases.
To a question, he said that the PPP wants the politics of reconciliation and it would advance the agenda, as we have no other option. He said that if democracy was derailed, it would benefit none. He said that PPP enjoys good support from allied parties, especially the ANP that would, he hoped, side with the party throughout the term.
