The PPP-backed candidate of Friends Alliance Mumtaz Mustafa has been elected as the Vice Chairman Punjab Bar Council (PBC) for 1 year. Mustafa, an elected member from Rahim Yar Khan secured 44 votes while his opponent Bashir Paracha of Professional Group headed by Hamid Khan from Attock, got only 30 votes.
Rana Akram has notched the seat of Chairman Executive Committee by beating Adil Mushtaq. Akram obtained 40 votes while Mushtaq got 30. Polling for the two seats was held at the PBC building where 75 elected members cast their votes. One vote was rejected.
Powerful Professional Group led by Hamid Khan tasted second defeat in less than a month as its presidential candidate in the Lahore Bar Association election also lost against the PPP-backed candidate Sajid Bashir. Results of the election made it clear that anti-Hamid Khan sentiments in the bar are on the rise after the end of lawyers' movement and SC's judgement that also removed the non-PCO judges, appointed on the recommendation of Justice Dogar.
