Fishermen on Monday appealed to the government to take notice of the arrest of Karachi's fishermen and confiscation of their fishing boats allegedly by the Balochistan Levies. President Bona Fide Fishermen and Boat Owners Welfare Association, Asif Bhatti urged the government for early release of the arrested fishermen along their boats.
He expressed fears that despite being Pakistanis, the Sindh-based fishermen were always treated badly in Balochistan waters, as if they were foreigners. Whereas, Balochistan-based fishermen enjoy all facilities at Karachi Fish Harbour and freely move in Karachi waters, he added. He said that the government should sort out a permanent solution to the problems of Karachi fishermen, as their fishing route was largely stretched through Balochistan waters where authorities are terribly hostile.
