THE RUPEE: dollar marginally up

Mixed trend was seen on the local currency market on Monday as dollar demand was persistent due to higher payments of oil bills, marketmen said The rupee shed against dollar two paisa at 85.07 and 85.12 for buying and selling, they said. In the first Asian trade dollar held at its highest levels in six months, while euro huddled near seven-month lows on fiscal concerns, and higher yielding currencies remained pressured by the closing of leveraged trades.
The Australian dollar hovered at its weakest since mid-December as investors briefly unwound yen-funded carry trades on a report that a UK regulator would like to restrain carry trading generally.

According to dealers, the dollar closed at Rs 86.10 and Rs 86.50 as its buying and selling rates against Saturday's Rs 86.30 and Rs 86.60, respectively.
The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 137.20 and Rs 138.00 as compared to previous closing of Rs 137.50 and Rs 138.50, respectively, dealers said.
The dollar opened at Rs 86.20 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling) against last rates of Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.10 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 86.20 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 134 (buying) and Rs 135 (selling) against last rates of Rs 138 (buying) and Rs 138.20 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening spell and closed at Rs 134 (buying) and Rs 135 (selling).
