Weapon buying from government malkhana: minister refutes media allegations

02 Feb, 2010

Sindh Minister for Works and Services Manzoor Hussain Wassan Monday rebutted media reports whether he had bought any weapon from the government's 'malkhana' at its rate. Responding to a point of order in the Sindh Assembly, the minister referred to the media and newspaper reports in which his name was shown among those, who had bought a weapon from the government malkhana at government's price.
He however admitted that he was handed an order whereby he could buy a G-3 rifle from the government's malkhana on the licence issued to him by the Interior Ministry, at government's rate. He said he did not buy any such weapon and his name was wrongly included in the list of such buyers. On this, Deputy Speaker Ms Shehla Raza, who was chairing the session advised the media to not publish such reports and publish any report with responsibility.
Local Government Minister Agha Siraj Durrani, however, pointed out that there was no illegality if a weapon is bought from government malkhana at government's price, as all MNAs and MPAs are eligible to it. He also referred to reports published about his vehicle for having tinted glasses. He clarified that he had bought this bombproof vehicle in 2006 and that it had factory-fitted glasses.
