02 Feb, 2010

Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Punjab has decided to set up disaster management cells (DMCs) and thalassemia centres in all the districts of Punjab by the end of this year. The decision was taken during a meeting of the PRCS Punjab Chapter, chaired by PRCS Punjab Chairman Mian Muhammad Hanif at the provincial headquarters of the PRCS here on Monday.
Talking to newsmen, PRCS Punjab spokesperson said that only six DMCs were working under the auspices of PRCS in Punjab and their number would be raised to 36 in 2010. "These DMCs would help Red Crescent Society and the district administration in their rehabilitation efforts in the wake of natural disasters," he highlighted. He added that new thalassemia centres and dispensaries would be instrumental in the provision of basic health facilities to the needy and the poor.
