Non-compliance with traffic rules: a Rs 87,000 fine recovered from 435 offenders

Traffic Magistrate Islamabad and Secretary Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) Asia Gul imposed fine amounting Rs 87,000 on 435 offenders for non-completion of routes and over charging and plying vehicles, without the route permits. She said that special traffic checking at various routes was conducted including the Karachi Company Stop and Pims Stops and fine from 435 public service vehicles, during last week, was recovered.
Moreover, a warning was issued on January 26, 2010 to the transporters including taxi drivers to complete their documents within 10 days, including getting route permits of cabs. Fine will be imposed on offenders after the deadline, she maintained. Asia Gul revealed that over 100 cabs have been fined for plying vehicles without route permits. She said that action against the offenders using private cars as cabs, is underway and five 5 such vehicles have also been impounded.
ICT Administration has imposed fines worth Rs 31,000 on 60 profiteers in surprise price checking in the markets, during the last 15 days, she added. Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioners and Magistrates, during the checking of rates of food items in various parts of the city including urban and rural areas, imposed fine on the profiteers for over charging and not displaying the rate list.
Assistant Director Food ICT Administration Muhammad Afzal also conducted price checking in Iram Market G-6/2 and imposed heavy fines on the 7 profiteers for not displaying rate list of fruits and vegetables. He also checked the availability and rates of other essential commodities in the city markets and directed the shopkeepers to display the rate list of food items prominently at the shops, and ensure the quality of food items.
