Poverty-stricken couple attempts to sell children

A poverty-stricken couple of Jatoi, Muzaffargarh district, presented their 3 children for sale against Rs 20,000 only, but no one turned up for the 'offer'. Police said a couple of Mukhtar Mai's native town reached at Chowk Ghanta Ghar on Monday noon and presented their three children Usama (11) Hifza (8) and Altaf (2) for sale.
Salim Akhtar and his wife Tasleem Akhtar, the parents, said they were very poor and unable to meet the expenses of education and other expenses, of the children. No one turned up for the sale as Saleem had got a debt of Rs 20,000 on him, from a usurer, and now he was unable to repay the loan because he was jobless. However, the Child Protection Bureau took one of the children in its custody, with the help of the police.
