Riot in Faisalabad jail: Chief Justice LHC directs SP to submit report by February 16

The Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice here on Tuesday directed Superintend-dent Police concerned to probe into riot erupted in Faisalabad jail other day and submit a detailed report by February 16. CJ Khawaja Muhammad Sharif also directed Session's judge Faisalabad to revisit jail to assess the situation and apprise the court on next date of hearing about real situation.
Earlier DIG Prisons, Capital City Police Officer and superintendent jail appeared before the court in a suo motu proceedings initiated by Chief Justice on the riot erupted in Faisalabad jail. Acting Advocate general Hanif Khatana told the court that a prisoner was fled away from the jail and the authorities had suspended jail staff and its Superintendent after it was proved that they helped him in running away. He pointed out that transfer of superintendent led to eruption of riots in jail because a large number of desperate and hardened criminals are confined in prison and they were not happy over transfer of the said superintendent. He said in previous regime these criminals were carrying out their nefarious activities with ease and comfort and now they were finding it hard to continue their activities in the presence of new superintendent.
