Visual, performing art students: Senate body for introducing scholarship programme

Senate Standing Committee on Culture and Tourism on Tuesday asked Higher Education Commission (HEC) to introduce scholarship programme for students of visual and performing arts. The need for this initiative was also supported by the members of Senate Standing Committee on Culture in a meeting held here.
Chairperson of the committee Nilofar Bakhtiar also sought to forward recommendations for holding SAARC Film Festival to promote soft image of the country, as an endeavour to project culture, both at home and abroad. The meeting also decided to hold Film Revival Week for highlighting country's rich, diverse culture heritage. The committee also stressed immediate steps for revival of culture and tourism in Swat. The attention of committee was also drawn towards the pathetic condition of Swat Museum.
The Chairperson standing committee took serious notice of the issue and also asked for establishing a section of war on terror in the museum. Member who attended the meeting included Senator, Muhammad Kazim Khan, Senator, Maula Baksh Chandio, Senator, Farah Aqil, Senator, Abdur Rahim Khan Mandokhel, Senator, Rehana Yahya Baloch, Moulana Atta-ur-Rehman.
