Peak Private School Association Sindh (PPSAS) and Directorate of Private Institutions Sindh (DPIS) have announced to observe "Students' Week" at secondary schools' level from February 08 to February 13, 2010. The announcement was made by President PPSAS, Haider Ali and Director Private Institution Sindh, Professor Mansab Siddiqui in a joint press conference at Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Haider Ali said more than 450 private and public schools would participate in Naat and speech competitions. He said the association and director private institutions had decided to invite public sector institutions to participate and also hold two programmes in government schools. Giving details of the programmes, he said the event would start from Jamshaid and Korangi Towns and contests would be held between the students of two towns of the city everyday.
The contests between the secondary school students of Korangi and Jamsahid Towns would be held on February 08, Landhi Town February 09, Landhi and Bin Qasim Towns February 09, Shah Faisal and Gulshan-e-Iqbal Towns February 10, Malir and Gadap Towns February 11 and competitions in schools of Nazimabad, Baldia and Orangi Towns on February 13.
He said character building and strong base of country's economy were the two main purpose of the basic schooling around the globe.
"Academic and extra curricular activities are necessary for character building, but uncertain law and order situation in the society has reduced the attractiveness in both components," he added. He said the association had decided to organise Career Guidance Day on February 20, 2010 and invited 1500 students, eight students of secondary level including four male and equal numbers of female students of 200 schools for participation.
