Futures open interest decreases by 23.5 percent

The open interest at the futures counter decreased by a significant 23.5 percent on week-on-week basis to Rs 348 million. The futures spreads surged by 734bps to settle at a level of 12.10 percent due to liquidity issues creating volatility in the rates, analysts said. Trading activity at the futures counter decreased by a significant 56 percent on weekly basis to 2.0 million shares.
The top 5 scrips at the counter were POL, Engro, OGDC, MCB and PPL cumulatively contributing 84 percent to the total open interest during the week.
