08 Feb, 2010

Electricity consumers in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have received inflated bills this month coupled with increased per unit rates and fuel price adjustment.
"Last month, I consumed 282 units and made payment of Rs 1,618 to Wapda but this month, I have received a bill amounting to Rs 1,593 for consuming only 232 units," Muhammad Idrees, a resident of I-10/2 sector told APP, here on Sunday. He informed that an amount of Rs 236 on account of monthly fuel price adjustment from October 2009 was also charged. Idrees also pointed out that the bill also included Rs 32 as General Sales Tax (GST) adjustment, adding that GST, television fee and service rent are also charged from the consumers every month.
Meanwhile, dangling and naked electricity wires are posing serious threats to the residents especially the children in different areas. "These dangling wires are a threat to the residents in I-10/2 sector who have submitted various applications to the concerned authority, but to no avail," said Maqbool who has been living in I-10 sector for the last 5 years. Residents of the area demanded the authorities to take effective measures and rectify the problem to save the consumers from any untoward incident.
