Plan to attain self-sufficiency in gas production

An integrated plan is being evolved to make the country self-sufficient in natural gas production and to meet the future demand of natural gas in the country including AJK, official sources said. The sources told newsmen here on Tuesday that the government had chalked out a comprehensive phased plan to extend the natural gas facility to maximum population across the country including AJK.
The natural gas was better to keep the environment pollution-free. The sources continued that there had been great achievement in providing gas to various parts of the country. The government has already launched the projects to extend the gas facilities through pipelines as well as through cylinders in form of LPG to even the remote areas of the country aimed at saving the national wealth of timber wood from wastage.
The sources said that gas was the cheapest and inexpensive source for utilisation for domestic, industrial and commercial purposes. Pakistan is blessed with world's biggest stocks of coal in Sindh. These coal resources are proposed to be utilised for the production of gas under the gigantic plan.
The sources revealed that under the plan, small stations for production of gas from coal were proposed to be installed. Those stations of the coal gas could be moved for the supply of gas to the remote and far-flung areas, it added. The gas will be supplied in the rural and the remote areas through compressor units. One of the projects is also proposed to be launched in AJK side by side various parts of Pakistan.
Since billions of rupees were being spent for using oil for industrial and commercial purposes in the country, the government was determined to bring maximum decrease in these expenditures, said the sources. It would also help in to alleviate poverty besides to benefit economy and industry and to enhance the national economic growth, according to the sources.
